Is This Pakistan’s Worst ODI Performance? All out on 92 and Defeated by 202 3rd ODI

In the 3rd match of the Pakistan vs West Indies Series, team West Indies took a decisive victory over Pakistan. Batting first team West Indies were at 194 for the loss of 6 wickets. However, in the last 7 overs, West Indies turned on the Windies mode and managed to score 294 runs. They secured 100 runs from the last 7 overs without giving any wicket. Captain Shai Hope played an unbeaten innings of 120* runs facing off 94 deliveries. Justin Greaves also contributed 43 runs on 24 balls.

However, the bowlers also played a crucial role this decisive victory. Jayden Seales struck early, and team Pakistan was down to 3 wickets on just 8 runs. This early fall of wickets crushed the team Pakistan’batting plan and they were all out on just 92 runs. Agha was the only player from team Pakistan to reach a score of 30 runs. Jayden Seals bowled an impressive spell taking 6 wickets giving just 18 runs with an economy of 2.45.

First Innings

Power-Play

Brandon King and Evin Lewis opened up the innings for West Indies. King closed the first over with a four with the help of an inside edge. Lewis followed it up with a four on the 2nd delivery of the second over.

Brandon King’s Departure

However, Naseem Shah in the 3rd over, struck back and took an early wicket of Brandon King. On the 3rd delivery the ball edged and went into the hands of Salman Ali Agha who took the catch without any mistake. Brandon King scored 5 runs on 8 balls.

Keacy Carty’s Entry

After first loss for West Indies, Keacy Carty joined Evin Lewis on the crease. Meanwhile Pakistani team took a review when Hasan Ali was bowling. On first delivery, Hasan managed to hit the ball on the top of the back pad. After umpire given it a not out, team Pakistan took a review, which was lost.

Keacy Carty after gaining some momentum, smashed the 2nd delivery of the 7th over, for a beautiful four. In the next over, Lewis also joined the party and smashed a length delivery for a Six. At the end of the 10th over, West Indies were at 36 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

Another Review Lost but another Wicket

For the 11th over, Pakistan team took another review. Unfortunately, for team Pakistan, this review was lost as well. In the 13 over, Lewis went for a boundary and secured a Six on the 3rd delivery. He followed that up with another Six on the last delivery of the same over. However, in the very next over, Lewis tried to play for another big shot in the over of Abrar Ahmad, but the ball ran out of distance and got caught by Muhammad Haris on the boundary. Lewis scored 37 runs facing off 54 deliveries.

Another Wicket for Abrar

In the 20th over, Abrar struck again and managed to dismissal Keacy Carty with LBW decision. On the out decision of umpire, Keacy went straight for a review. Unfortunately, the review lost for the West Indies they lost another wicket. Keacy Carty scored 17 runs on 45 deliveries. At the end of 20th over, West Indies were at 69 for the loss of 3 wickets.

Rutherford’s Entry

To overcome the loss, Rutherford came into the crease. After gaining some momentum, he closed the 21st over with a cracking four. Shai Hope also kept on building momentum slowly indicating that he was on a mission. He closed the 25 over with a much needed boundary. He followed it up with another four on the last delivery of the 26th over. On the fourth ball of the 27th over, he secured another four with a pulling the ball over the mid-wicket.

Fourth loss for West Indies

However, in the 31st over, Saim Ayub went withdraw another wicket for team Pakistan. Rutherford tried to play for the flatter delivery for a boundary by going deep into the crease, but the ball gained more height then the distance, as a result, Talat took the catch. Rutherford scored 15 runs facing off 40 deliveries. At this point, West Indies were at 115 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

From the other end, Shai Hope slowly kept on scoring. He went for a big shot on the 2nd delivery and and secured a much awaited Six for his team. Roston Chase who came into the crease a few deliveries earlier, also joined the party and played for a four on the 3rd delivery of the 34th over. Shai Hope followed it up with another four to close the over.

Fifty for Shai Hope

On the very first delivery of the 36th over, Shai Hope tried for a reverse sweep and secured 3 runs from this ball. These 3 runs helped Shai Hope securing his fifty. He faced 54 deliveries to achieve this benchmark. Roston Chase after building some momentum, smashed the very next delivery for a four. He followed that up with two Sixes in next two overs. In the 39th over he went for a shot again and scored another four.

However his innings came to an end, when Naseem Shah bowled him. He scored 36 runs facing off 29 deliveries. He contributed these crucial runs with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes. At number 7, Gudakesh Motie came into the batting attack. He smashed the fourth delivery of the very next over for a four. However, Motie went for a shot on the 5th delivery but the ball went high into the air instead of going for distance. As a result Nawaz took the catch without any mistake. Motie secured 5 runs facing off 7 deliveries. West Indies were at 194 for the loss of 6 wickets.

At this point of the game, the match seemed to be quite in the control of team Pakistan, but the captain of West Indies who was still in the crease, decided to be aggressive for the rest of the innings. On the very first ball of the 44th over, when Nawaz came into the bowling attack again, he smashed the ball for a Six for over the deep mid-wicket. He followed it up another Six on the very next delivery.

He did’t stopped there and played for a massive hit again on the 1st ball of the 45th over and secured a Six. He followed it up with a four on the fourth delivery of the same over. He closed the same over by hammering the ball for another Six. They managed to score 18 runs from this over. After building up some momentum, Justin Greaves also joined Shai Hope. He smashed the fourth delivery of the 46th over for a Six.

Century for Shai Hope

With a four on the 3rd delivery of the 48th over, Shai Hope completed his century in a heroic style. He achieved the milestone of his 18th ODI century in 83 deliveries. Justin Greaves followed it up with a Six. He closed the 48th over with a four.

Last 2 overs of the First Innings

For the 48 over, Naseem Shah came into the bowling and welcomed by Shai Hope with a four. He followed it up a four on the very next delivery. Justin Greaves also participated and smashed the fourth ball of the same over with a Six. He went for another shot on the very next delivery and secured a four. In the 50th over, he again smashed the ball for a four on the 2nd delivery. Shai Hope closed the 50th over with a heroic style by smashing the ball for a four. He played an unbeaten innings of 120* runs facing off just 94 deliveries.

With the heroic and strike rate boosted partnership in the last 7 overs, West Indies managed to set a respectable total of 295 runs.

2nd Innings

Wicket in the First over

Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique came on the crease for opening up the innings of team Pakistan. However, unfortunately, Pakistan lost their first crucial wicket in the very first over in the form of Saim Ayub. Jayden Seales got edge from Saim Ayub the ball went into the hand of Shai Hope. Saim Ayub went early on a duck facing off 3 deliveries.

2nd Wicket for West Indies

Abdullah Shafique was facing Shepherd in the 2nd over when 3rd ball went close to the inside edge and ran for a boundary. However, in the next over, Jayden Seales came into the bowling attack again and stuck again for another wicket. He manage to withdraw a catch from Abdullah Shafique as well. The ball went into the hand of Gudakesh Motie Unfortunately ,for Shafique, he went to the pavilion on a duck as well.

3rd for the Jayden Seales

After this loss, Muhammad Rizwan came into the crease. However, Jayden was ready on the bowling end with a plan. As soon as Rizwan was ready to face his first delivery, he bowled him. Getting his consecutive second wicket. Unfortunately, for team Pakistan, Rizwan went to the pavilion on a duck as well. Jayden was on a hat-trick . However, he failed to cash it.

Babar Azam’s Departure

In the fourth over, Babar Azam played 2nd delivery towards the Gudakesh Motie. But the ball went for a four due to the misfield. Salman Ali Agha followed it up a four in the next over. However, Jayden Seales was into the attack again. This time he tricked Babar Azam for LBW. Babar Azam was given out by the umpire. Babar decided to go for a review but the decision went again into the fever of West Indies. Babar Azam scored 9 runs facing off 23 deliveries.

5th loss for team Pakistan

Salman Ali Agha was still on the ground struggling for securing some shots for his team. He succeeded in securing a much awaited four runs in the 12th over. He followed it with a four in the next over. However wickets kept on falling from the other end as Hasan Nawaz got stumped on Motie’s delivery. Motie went with a wider delivery and Hasan Nawaz came out of the crease to play this delivery but missed and the ball went into the hands of the keeper. He scored 13 runs in 40 deliveries. At the end of the 20th over, team Pakistan was standing at 62 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Talat’s Entry and Departure

At number 7, Hussain Talat joined Salman Ali Agha. However, the 3rd delivery stayed lower and turned a bit to went into the stumps. Talat scored only 1 run facing off 4 deliveries.

All hopes lost for Pakistan with Agha’s Wicket

In the 20th over, Motie tricked Salman Ali Agha to play the delivery towards the bowler. As a result Motie took the catch and with this wicket all hopes were lost for team Pakistan. Agha remained in the crease more then any player from the team Pakistan. He scored 30 runs facing off 49 deliveries with the help of 3 fours. He was the highest scorer from team Pakistan. With the help of a Six in the 24th and and a four in the 26th over, were standing at 89 runs with the loss of 7 wicket.

Fifer for Jayden Seales

In the 28th over, Jayden Seales came back into the attack. This time Naseem Shah help him completing his fifer by playing the ball towards him for a catch. Jayden Seales who was already in the search of the wicket, took the catch without any mistake. This was his first fifer. He performed pretty well in the match and more importantly, his family was there in the ground. So, it was a proud moment for both, him and his family. Naseem Shah scored 6 runs facing off 16 deliveries.

Fall of last two Wickets of Pakistan

In 30th over, on the very first delivery, the ball went through Hasan Ali‘s defence and smashed the stumps. This was the 6th wicket for Jayden Seales and overall 9th wicket for the West Indies team. Hasan Ali scored 0 runs facing off 3 deliveries. On the very next delivery, Abrar Ahmad ran for stealing a single, but Roston Chase picked up the ball and smashed the stumps at the keeper‘s end resulting in a run-out.

Victory

West Indies won the match by a massive margin of 202 runs. With this victory, they also won the Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series by 2-1.

Pakistan elected to bowl first after winning the match. This proved to be a good decision for them as they took the first wicket in the 3rd over. With this early loss West Indies scored only 36 runs from the first 10 overs. Pakistani bowlers kept their good bowling and after 30 overs, West Indies were at 110 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
